About the subject:
In this comprehensive single subject painting course, students gain a thorough understanding of painting techniques and methods. Emphasis is placed on the nature of observation and the way it is utilised in painting. Drawing on a wide range of contemporary and historical examples, students gain a theoretical understanding of painting and develop a critical awareness of individual skill and proficiency.
Methods and techniques covered include handling of oil paints, use of opaque and transparent pigments, colour mixing and selection, and preparation of painting surfaces such as canvas. Students also explore various approaches to paint application including blending, glazing, scumbling, wet in wet, encaustic (wax) and impasto.
On completion, students are able to advance to the next level in Painting in the following semester.

There are 3 trimesters in a year. Each trimester is a Unit of Study. Students completing the year will complete the PAINTING subject in the first year of the Advanced Diploma of Visual Art. Students are able to enter painting at any trimester stage. |
